Lincoln is important to me because Spielberg knows how to make a good drama with a powerful message. When I heard this movie would be up for three Oscar nominations I literally knocked on wood and hoped the people who nominated it were not stupid and might award it for best picture. Lincoln is a movie with a message and the message is to try and understand and appreciate the gifts that each one of us has in this life and to help others do the same. This type of movie is so important. Life is precious and it is our duty as human beings to try and live as good a life as possible. We are surrounded by people who are in one way or another broken, lost and mired in their own heads and if we are not careful we could suffer the same fate.In all the Oscar nominations there are some very good movies. It is just that the Academy has decided for whatever reasons that Lincoln is the best of the bunch. My vote for best picture has gone to the excellent Life of Pi which is a very moving adaptation of a real life story about a young boy who is stranded alone on an oceanographic research vessel and slowly makes his way back to his family. He never gives up despite having to make the best of a bad situation. The only bad thing about Life of Pi is that it is a silent movie.
Actors Cooper and Sewell are no strangers to playing evil but the latter is still better than the former. Lincoln is a thoroughly amusing movie. Its a far more serious treatise on the president than his fourteenth amendment.
